the project
Mind Yourself is an educational initiative that aims to improve people’s understanding of their own (and each other's) social behaviours. This is done by providing accessible information about social psychology, which is the study of social interactions and their effects on individuals and groups.
The objectives of the project are:
To educate people by presenting psychological research in a way that is easy to understand
To pique public interest in social psychology
To promote empathy through improved understanding of each other's behaviours
This was a year-long thesis project undertaken at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, as part of the undergraduate Communication Design curriculum.
The Process
In the first 2 months of the project, I conducted a thorough literature review of core topics in social psychology. I then engaged in a lengthy writing process, in order to distill the most pertinent information into small, digestible chunks using casual and accessible language.
To maximize user engagement, all project materials were written and designed to be friendly and informal, with eye-catching visuals and a light-hearted, humorous tone.
The Deliverables
Ten key topics from social psychology are presented to the public through print brochures, a website, and promotional materials such as postcards, fridge magnets, and button pins. The project is intended to be a free, open-source educational resource, but users can also choose to purchase a special physical box set containing all project materials.
